Retirement Age – Born in 1983
Last updated on April 10th, 2023
What is my retirement age if I was born in 1983?
If you were born in 1983 then your retirement age – at least the age at which you can draw your UK State pension) is age 68. Legislation was put in place for thisinthePensionsAct2014.
Retirement in 2051
For now your official retirement age is age 68 and so you can retire in the year 2051.
Further Increases
The 2017 review of pension ages increased the age at which people retire to age 68 starting with those who were born in 1970/71. Therefore there is a distinct possibility that your pension age could be increased higher than 68 before you actually come to retire.
The 2023 review has recommended that the retirement age should be increased to 69 for those who were born after 1977, so if that is legislated, your retirement age will be 69. The government has also stated that no more legislation will be put into place to change retirement ages until after the next review.
The government have stated that they don’t plan to make any more increases than 1 year in every 10 so that means it is possible for people born as early as the early 80s to have their pension age increased to 69.
There will be regular reviews of the State pension age which will take account of any increases in life expectancy which will likely be the prime reason for any further increases.
We will keep this site updated with any changes to retirement ages that are announced by a future government or any reports on State pension age reviews.
