Welcome to Retirement-Age.com
Retirement Age is a website dedicated to providing you with information about your retirement age in the UK. There are various different aspects to retirement age and we hope to make all of the options clear to you in a simple way.
Not only will we provide information and updates about your State retirement age, which is our main aim (this can be confusing as different retirement ages are phased in and no doubt further changes will be announced), but we will also provide information about retirement ages for different pension schemes in the UK.
What is retirement?
Well it could be defined as the point where you stop work for good, but also it could be the point where you take your pension, whether that be the state pension, private pension or a company pension. In a lot of cases people enter semi-retirement and perhaps you keep on working part time or for an employer.
Retirement age is a general term that doesn’t specifically mean that you have to take your pension or stop work – you may just carry on past retirement age until you feel ready to give up work. Don’t forget that you can delay taking your State pension past your designated retirement age and your pension will be increased accordingly.
Pension Age
Each pension plan is likely to have it’s own specific retirement age – that does not mean that you can’t retire earlier or later than that age as there are most likely provisions in the scheme rules that allow you to retire at a different age to the specified one.
There are specified legal retirement ages – for example you can’t take any personal pension benefits before the age of 55 – so we will try and clarify the rules on legal retirement ages for you.
Finding Your Retirement Age
If you want to figure out when your State retirement age is and you are in the UK then we have created a questionnaire that will take you through stages to direct you to finding out your State pension age. State Pension Ages for both men and women are quite confusing as they both increase to age 68 in the coming years and there are different rates of change for men and women up to a certain point. Click here to start the questionnaire and find out your state pension age.
Alternatively, you can also just use the search feature on the website to search for your year of birth and this may give you more exact information on your retirement age. There are specific articles aimed at letting you know your state pension age for the year you were born. The search bar is at the very top on mobile devices and in the right sidebar on desktop devices.
Retirement Age Changes
Whenever any changes are introduced we will update the site as quickly as we can with any changes. The site was updated after the recommended increase of the State pension age to 68 was brought forward. We are now updating the site with the recommendations of the second independent review but once again these changes have not yet been legislated.
Obviously some changes depend on the government that we have in place and policies may change when/if a new government is elected so will will update with any changes should that happen.
If you have any questions you are welcome to use the feedback page which you can find in the main menu.
